Mispillion Art League Offering First-time Statewide Art Event In October 2019

Mispillion Art League (MAL) presents The 2019 Big Draw Festival DE sponsored by Bayhealth. This festival takes place during the month of October, offering over 50 activities and classes suitable for artists and non-artists, families, and kids throughout the state of Delaware. The Festival is part of an international annual event taking place in over 25 countries and involving more than 500,000 participants.

The aim of the Festival is to encourage community members to participate in art-making and enjoy the benefits of self-expression and creativity using a multitude of mediums. There will be drawing activities for all skill levels, photography classes, painting classes, and sandcastle making. In October, folks will be making chalk art on the street, painting a mandala on the Mispillion Art League building, crafting origami birds, sketching dancers and actors in costume, taking photographs with light, learning to create wicked zombie makeup for Halloween, and much more.  

MAL is partnering with Jerry’s Artarama in Newark, Milton Arts Guild, Rehoboth Art League, DAC (Developing Artist Collaboration) in Rehoboth Beach, Yorklyn Center for Creative Arts, Nanticoke River Arts Council and Newark Arts Alliance to bring these and other exciting art opportunities to our surrounding communities.

Come sketch with me in Umbria! Nedra Bottieri of Village Vacations in Italy is helping me organize this Sketching Holiday in Umbria. 

My late husband Bob and I lived in Perugia, in Umbria where I painted and sketched this extraordinary landscape. I am thrilled at the opportunity to show you some of our favorite places, charming cities and towns in the "green heart of Italy."

We'll be staying in a Villa large enough to accommodate 16 people, transportation to take us around to all the places where we will visit and sketch together. We're including the Festival of Calendimaggio in Assisi, a truly breathtaking spectacle, (admission not included) and a Cooking Class. We'll make sure there is time for enjoying a cappuccino or glass of wine at the pool or an outdoor cafe and experiencing La Dolce Vita - the sweet life! 

Between my experiences living in Umbria and Nedra's knowledge of the area, I believe this is going to be very special!



We'll explore a different Umbrian town each day, where I'll demonstrate and share my knowledge of watercolor journaling with you, encouraging you to find your own way of capturing the world around you as we sketch together. In the evenings, we'll gather for an apertivo and share our sketchbooks and the experiences of the day.

*Payment Terms: The reservation deposit is nonrefundable. The remaining balance is due by Feb 1. 50% of the remaining balance is forfeited for cancellations received in writing up to two months before arrival on May 2, 2020 and 100% forfeited for cancellations thereafter.

Day Trips Include:
-Perugia: Spend the entire day exploring Perugia. Visit Rosemary’s favorite places including Giuditta Brozzetti for textiles made on ancient looms using traditional techniques and patterns. End the day sketching at Il Tempio.
-Orvieto: Underground Tour & Duomo (admissions included)
-Corciano in the morning, Bevagna in the afternoon – 2 sketch-worthy Umbrian towns.
-Cooking Class: Enjoy a restful day at the villa and your cooking lesson in the afternoon where you will learn the secrets and simple basics of Italian cooking
-Assisi, the majestic town of immense beauty and spiritual significance. Attend Calendimaggio, a spectacular medieval Festival, full of pageantry! (Admission not included)
-Deruta, where you will feast your eyes on exquisite hand painted pottery and shop until your heart is content. Save room in your luggage!
